I genuinely love what I do, but in all the years I’ve been involved in this industry, with the development, convenience and quality of Mobile Photography and the Mobile Workflow, I’ve never been as excited about Photography as I am right now.

KIT / GEAR I CURRENTLY USE

This is one of the many things I REALLY love about going out and taking photographs with my mobile device (iPhone) … minimal kit and incredibly light and portable.

The Mobile Workflow is so incredibly convenient and continues to get better and better.

Having the ability to take photographs using my iPhone and then almost immediately view them on the larger screen of my iPad is so good. Also being able to look through images, sort them and even make some edits in Lightroom which then sync back to the desktop version is fantastic!

Note: I use the ShiftCam Pro Grip (below) when hand-holding my iPhone to take photographs, and this isn’t to try and make it look and feel in some way like a Mirrorless / DSLR, but to have VERY good and reassuring hold of the phone.

The ShiftCam Pro Grip holds the phone VERY securely and can be rotate from, horizontal to vertical without changing your grip. The Wireless / Bluetooth Shutter Button works really well and with no noticeable delay. This is incredibly useful especially when taking photographs in wet conditions as I often do when photographing storms, and this can invariably make it difficult to tap the screen to take a photograph. Using the volume up / down buttons always felt very precarious when holding the phone especially over water.

The built in charging bank is incredibly useful keeping your phones battery topped up and keeping you taking photographs / video for longer.

My FAVOURITE MOBILE PHOTOGRAPHY APPS

In addition to the built in camera app on my iPhone, there’s 2 apps in particular that I use all the time when taking photographs. Lightroom Mobile for photography of anything where I want more control than the Apple iOS Camera App provides. I’ll also use this for Long Exposure down to 0.5 second exposures along with a Variable Neutral Density Filter. Doing this prevents the stepping pattern that you can see in very short short long exposures … if that makes sense.

For anything longer I use the EvenLonger App; a Raw Long Exposure App that because of how it works doesn’t require the need for any ND (Neutral Density) filters regardless of how long of a long exposure you want. It can also do a heck of a lot more such as Night Photography, Star Trails and more…

my favourite editing apps

Lightroom Mobile on both my iPhone and my iPad works so incredibly well receiving constant updates and improvements with the editing tools available and the way it seamlessly syncs across all devices.

Photoshop on the iPad is also a great app although at the moment it is somewhat limited compared to what is available in the desktop version. It does prove to be very useful though when wanting to work on some edits when away from the desktop or access to a laptop. It also syncs seamlessly between Lightroom on the iPad.
